About Scholarships

The Ben Kessel Memorial Scholarship (Natick High School)

The Ben Kessel Memorial Scholarship is awarded to one or more college-bound STEM majors who share the traits that contributed to Ben’s success as a student and an engineer, and Ben’s service to environmental protection.

We seek applications from lifelong learners who:
  • are inquisitive, independent thinkers with a passion and aptitude in science, technology, engineering and math (with a priority for engineering).
  • have a strong appreciation and commitment to nature and to the environment
  • demonstrate strong character, courage, and perseverance
  • embrace challenges and seek opportunities to develop their problem-solving skills - whether physical and social or academic
  • appreciate the perspective and inspiration that comes from experiential learning
  • are commited to building a better world
The Ben Kessel Memorial Endowed Scholarship (University of the Pacific, School of Engineering and Computer Science)

In 2025, Ben's alma mater, the University of the Pacific's School of Engineering and Computer Science, launched a new scholarship in memory of Ben. Annual awards are made to engineering majors entering their junior or senior year with aspirations to an engineering career related to environmental protection or conservation and/or a demonstrated passion for environmental protection, nature, or outdoor recreation. Preference is given to applicants who have displayed leadership qualities, including teaching, civic/ community service, political advocacy, etc. or have demonstrated resilience in overcoming life challenges.
The first two Kessel Scholarships were awarded for the 2025-26 academic year. The recipients will continue the legacy of engineering excellence, environmental stewardship, and desire to make a difference, that characterized the Mountain Man.
